چکیده

A nonlinear reconstruction scheme based on the Distorted Born Iterative Method (DBIM) is presented to solve two-dimensional inverse scattering problems with metallic scatterers. Half-quadratic regularization alleviates the inherently ill-posed problem of nonlinear inverse scattering while simultaneously preserving edges. Reconstruction results are found by minimizing a cost function. A bistatic experimental setup is studied with angular and frequency diversity. A Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm (MLFMA) combined with a conjugate gradient (CG) scheme is introduced to solve the forward as well as the inverse scattering problem involved in the DBIM. The computational complexity per CG iteration using the MLFMA is of order O(N log N) compared to O(N 2) in a standard implementation without the MLFMA. Numerical reconstruction results obtained from synthetic scattering data are presented.

Multilevel fast-multipole algorithm for scattering from conducting targets above or embedded in a lossy half space

An extension of the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA), originally developed for targets in free space, is presented for the electromagnetic scattering from arbitrarily shaped three-dimensional (3-D), electrically large, perfectly conducting targets above or embedded within a lossy half space. We have developed and implemented electric-field, magnetic-field, and combined-field integral...

Error control in the perfectly matched layer based multilevel fast multipole algorithm

The development of efficient algorithms to analyze complex electromagnetic structures is of topical interest. Application of these algorithms in commercial solvers requires rigorous error controllability. In this paper we focus on the perfectly matched layer based multilevel fast multipole algorithm (PML-MLFMA), a dedicated technique constructed to efficiently analyze large planar structures. M...

Numerical Methods for Analysis of Em Scattering from an Electrically Large Ocean Surface

Electromagnetic scattering is considered from finite and electrically large perfectly conducting rough surfaces. Three solution approaches are considered. The first two are based on a multi-level fast-multipole algorithm (MLFMA) formulation. In one MLFMA approach the rough surface resides in free space and is terminated by a resistive taper. In the second MLFMA approach the rough surface is ter...

Efficient Implementation of Higher-order Finite Volume Time-domain Method for Elec- Trically Large Scatterers

The Finite Volume Time-Domain (FVTD) method finds limited application in the simulation of electromagnetic scattering from electrically large scatterers because of the fine discretization required in terms of points-per-wavelength. An efficient implementation of a higher-order FVTD method is proposed for electrically large, perfectly conducting scatterers. Higher-order and fine-grid accuracy ar...

Microwave Imaging of Two-dimensional Conducting Scatterers Using Particle Swarm Optimization

In this paper, a microwave imaging technique for reconstructing the shape of two-dimensional perfectly conducting scatterers by means of the particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed. The reconstruction is based on scattered field simulated measurements derived by transverse magnetic illuminations. Two different implementations of the particle swarm optimization algorithm, namely the sy...
